When we got the diagnosis, we threw the kitchen sink at Autism. We tried everything and once we found out what worked, we stuck with it. Some things worked better for one son than they did for the other son.
What we tried:
B12 Shots (you guys are lucky now that there is a spray)
IEP and being heavily involved in the school
Meds for sleep
Surfing (All summer)
Autism Board Member
Members of the Living Museum, Botanical Gardens, Ocean Breeze, and the Aquarium.
Biomedical- fish oil/cod oil anyone?
Plus, we never stopped. They learned how to roll with things while on vacay.
I’m sure I’m leaving stuff out, but you get it.
ABA, B12 and CF is what brought our youngest with Autism back to us. OT was also great. Our oldest is literally allergic to everything-and we tried to do that diet which was an epic fail. Thankfully his allergies aren’t life threatening.
Today our community has so many therapies to choose from, which is great. The sensory farm is opening soon. There’s also a place to go see bunnies♥️, Pennington Full Spectrum ABA, Aid Another, VITAL, Grom Camp, and the list goes on and on.
My whole point is – what works for my kid may not work for yours and visa versa. You just do your best with the information you are given. Keep researching. Keep asking those hard questions. Then keep plugging along. Day by day.
